Make Your Own Opioid Epidemic Video for Social Media

The following includes everything you need to educate patients on the opioid epidemic and chiropractic as a solution. Dr. Vargo provides “how to” tips, video outlines, promotional flyers, additional resource, and links to his videos for viewing. Make yourself a social media star and encourage referrals for your non-drug treatment by educating your community on this important topic.

Why make your own video?

The current Opioid crisis has put chiropractors in demand.  Highly respected organizations, officials, hospitals, and groups have recommended that chiropractic be a first-line option for both acute and chronic pains before opioids are given.  We don’t have to prove that chiropractic works, that’s already been done.  We just have to get the message out.  Creating your own personal video will do just that.  It will also gain the respect of your patients. They have many questions about this crisis and want to know more.  They want to hear it from YOU. There are many reasons for making your own video.   A video will save you time.  Instead of telling everyone the same story you can simply direct them to your web site to watch the videos.  It will also improve your SEO (search engine optimization).  The web loves it when people watch your videos.  You will get rewarded with higher rankings on Google.  Below are the steps on how to make your own videos.  Don’t wait, get started now!!!!

 What you will need

  • Any device used for recording video (I used my smart phone)
  • Flexible table top tripod such as Jobi, or Loha ($20.00)
  • video editing program, optional ($50 and up)

Step 1.  Become the opioid expert!
Log on the OSCA website and read the new opioid information section. In this section you will get facts, stats, and lots of information that you will use.  The Foundation for Chiropractic Progress web site is also filled with a huge volume of information on opioids.  The more you learn about the topic, the more of an expert you will be.  This will show in your videos.  You want to be natural when speaking.  It will also spill over into your office when treating patients. As they ask you questions on the opioid crisis you will be able to use your new found knowledge.  This will increase their respect for you.

Step 2.  Create your own outline.
Sample outlines are Included with these tips.  Use them as a start but it is important that you make your own. Modify it, edit it, change it.   Sit down and either hand write or type an outline on the message that YOU want to give.  Obviously you can’t say everything about opioids in 3 small 5 minute videos.  Pick what is important for you.  Again, you must own it to be believable and to hold the listeners attention.

Step 3.  Keep the videos on the short side.
Do you want one 15 minute video or 3 smaller 5 minute videos? That’s up to you.  Our feeling is 3 smaller videos are better as attention spans wouldn’t last the whole 15 minutes.  It’s also a LOT easier to make a small video with fewer mistakes than a longer video.

Step 4 Publish videos on youtube and your web page.
You are going to set up a youtube account to host your videos.  You will then link the videos to your web site and facebook.  This is not that difficult.  If you need help, ask a staff member or family member.

Step 5.  Post on facebook with a link to your web page.
People are more likely to watch the video on facebook if it starts playing immediately when they scroll down through their feeds. To do this you need to upload the video directly into facebook.  At the end of the video have your website page listed where all of your opioid videos can be found and tell them this is the first in a 3 part series.  Now people can jump ahead and watch the next video on your web site without waiting.

Step 6.  Repeat same video.
Post same video again on facebook within a couple of days or pay to boost post.
Try different ways to increase number of viewers.

Step 7. Direct patients to your web site.
You do this after the facebook promotion.  This catches all the people who missed it.  Also by going through your website you are increasing SEO (search engine optimization).  Keep track of how many views you have to see how good of a job you are doing promoting your videos.

Step 8.  Use flyers.
Have flyers made and put them up in each room.  Patients will read these and it will remind you to tell them of your videos. It will also give you something to put in the patient’s hand. Give each patient a flyer and explain why they need to watch your videos.

Step 9. Increase energy in office.
Start talking opioids in office not only with patients but with staff.  Educate your staff on what opioids are and how Chiropractic can help.  Included in the resource page is a picture of a button that say “no opioids – Chiropractic first” for your staff to wear. Turn your video into a live lecture and give it at your office.  Patients are hungry to hear more, they will come.  Hang posters and use pamphlets on opioid awareness.  You can get these from F4CP.

The more energy you put in the more the message will spread that we are the answer!  Patients are eager to learn more about this topic.  Chances are they know someone who is addicted.  Become the Opioid expert!  Make a difference!  Be the answer!
